The US Mint, during the 1840s, was receiving an unprecedented amount of gold from the California gold rush. It is no coincidence that the US Mint turned this large quantity of gold into several gold coins, including the $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle. These coins were minted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and are arguably the most popular gold coin ever produced by the mint. These coins are shipped to you professionally cleaned, and though there are signs of wear and tear, they are of the highest quality on the market today.
These coins may have been minted more than a century ago, but their design has persisted through the decades and can be found inspiring the design of coins produced by the US Mint today. Each coin contains about .9675 troy ounces of 90% pure gold, a purity level that was uncommon for when these coins were first produced. The coin’s obverse side draws inspiration from the Greek sculpture of the Crouching Venus and depicts the beautiful profile image of Lady Liberty. Upon her head, Lady Liberty is wearing a coronet with the word liberty inscribed upon it. Around the outer edges of the obverse side are 13 stars meant to represent the 13 colonies and the year in which the coin was minted.
The reverse side of the coin boasts the Great Seal of the United States, which is nothing more than an eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons while wearing a shield across its chest. Fixated above the eagle’s head are the words In God We Trust. The outer edges of the reverse of the coin feature an inscription that reads the United States of America and the $20 face value marking.
For many, this particular coin is as much of an investment in gold as it is a piece of American history. Still, investors worldwide are drawn to these coins for countless reasons, especially because of how pristine they look despite their age. The protection of your bullion is our top priority, so we will safely package and secure your coins before shipping them out. All of our shipments are fully insured to protect you from the unlikely occurrence of loss or damage during shipping.
